Dogecoin dog Kabosu dies after 14 years as meme

– Kabosu, a Japanese shiba inu dog known as the face of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency and inspiration for the “doge” meme, has died at age 18.

– In 2010, her owner Atsuko Sato took a picture of Kabosu sitting on the couch with her paws crossed, which spread online and became a viral meme.

– The “doge” meme featured images of Kabosu and other shibas with silly captions in broken English portraying their inner thoughts.

– Dogecoin cryptocurrency was also launched in 2013 partly inspired by the doge meme, and has since gained backing from celebrities like Elon Musk and Snoop Dogg.

– Kabosu had been battling leukemia and liver disease but passed away quietly at home surrounded by her owner.

– She leaves behind a legacy as one of the original internet dog memes and mascots that helped launch Dogecoin into the mainstream cryptocurrency world.
