US not expecting policy change from Iran under new president

– Masoud Pezeshkian was recently elected as the new president of Iran.

– The US State Department does not expect this election to result in major policy changes from Iran. They believe Supreme Leader Khamenei still controls key decisions.

– While welcoming steps like curbing nuclear work or terrorism support, the US said it has “no expectation” of such changes under the new president.

– The White House also said the US is “not expecting any changes in Iranian behavior.” They will see what the new president wants to achieve but relations are not expected to improve significantly.

– Nuclear talks between the US and Iran broke down in recent years over sanctions relief. Relations have also deteriorated due to issues like Iran’s support for militant groups like Hamas.

– The US remains willing to discuss diplomatically but does not plan to immediately resume nuclear negotiations with Iran under the new administration. The overall outlook on US-Iran ties appears unchanged for now.
