Iranian brothers charged in alleged smuggling operation that led to deaths of 2 Navy SEALs

– Two Iranian brothers linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard have been charged in the US with terrorism offenses related to a smuggling operation that led to the deaths of two US Navy SEALs earlier this year.

– The SEALs died while intercepting a ship in the Arabian Sea that was carrying Iranian-made weapon components intended for Houthi rebels in Yemen. During the boarding of the ship, one SEAL fell overboard and the other jumped in to try to save him, but neither survived.

– The ship was found to be carrying a variety of Iranian-made weapons including cruise and ballistic missile parts. The weapons were intended to supply the Houthis in Yemen.

– The two Iranian brothers charged are accused of paying the Pakistani captain of the intercepted ship $40,000 to carry out multiple smuggling shipments from Iran to Somalia near Yemen.

– The brothers are linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and charged with providing material support to Iran’s weapons program. The captain and three crew members have been in custody since the interception, while arrest warrants are out for the two Iranian brothers.
