Israeli minister tells US that large-scale Iranian attack expected, Axios reports

– Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that Iran is preparing for a large-scale military attack on Israel, according to a source familiar with their call.

– Gallant’s ministry confirmed the call and said they discussed operational coordination and Israel’s readiness to face Iranian threats.

– In response, Austin has ordered the deployment of a guided missile submarine to the Middle East. The US is also sending additional fighter jets and Navy warships to bolster Israeli defenses.

– These actions come after an Iranian commander said Iran would “harshly punish” Israel over its alleged assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran last month, per Iran’s Supreme Leader’s orders.

– Tensions are rising as Israel believes Iran is preparing an attack, while Iran has vowed retaliation for the Hamas leader’s killing that Israel is believed to be behind. The US is strengthening military support for Israel amid these threats.
