Iran says it will not take ‘hasty action’ against Israel for killing of Hamas political leader

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson said Iran will not take “hasty action” in response to Israel killing Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month.
The IRGC spokesperson said time is on Iran’s side and their response may be prolonged, instead of an immediate reaction. This suggests Iran is taking a less confrontational approach than their initial threats of retaliation.
Iran and its regional allies have blamed Israel for killing Haniyeh and another leader, but Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement in Haniyeh’s death.
Diplomats have been working to ease tensions and prevent a wider regional war between Iran/allies and Israel. A ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict could influence Iran’s response.
Iranian officials indicated their retaliation against Israel must not disrupt ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. This suggests Iran may delay or adjust any attack on Israel depending on how the ceasefire negotiations proceed.
The comments show Iran wants to avoid an escalation for now as its new government focuses on domestic priorities, but it still intends to respond to Israel at some point.
