– A new report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) that casts doubt on claims by Iran about its Emad ballistic missile program.
– Iran has previously said the Emad missile has precision guidance capabilities and a range of over 1,000 km, making it Iran’s longest-range missile. However, the IISS report questions these claims.
– The report analyzes Iranian state media footage of various Emad missile tests. It concludes the videos do not provide evidence that the missile has attained genuine precision-strike ability out to the claimed ranges.
– Precision guidance at longer ranges is very difficult to achieve and the IISS assessment is that Iran has yet to demonstrate this capability in practice with the Emad missile system.
– The report suggests Iran’s claims about the Emad should be viewed with skepticism until the missile’s precision targeting capabilities can be independently verified at long ranges through actual physical inspection or live tests.
– If true, this would mean Iran’s most advanced ballistic missile is not as capable as Iranian authorities have previously asserted. It casts doubt on Iran’s level of missile tech progress.
