Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said it has arrested 12 people suspected of collaborating with Israeli intelligence services.
The IRGC said in a statement those arrested were “linked with the Zionist regime’s intelligence services and hired by them.” Israel and Iran are arch-enemies.
It said some of those arrested had received training from Israeli intelligence on specialized topics including cryptography and safe houses.
The IRGC said the suspects were planning to take actions like organizing protests and cyberattacks against state institutions under the direction and funding of Israeli spies.
It claimed the arrests had preempted Israeli plans and that more details about the case would be released later.
Iran often accuses individuals or groups of ties to Israeli or Western intelligence services, seeing foreign hands behind domestic opposition or unrest.
Israel views Iran as its top threat and is suspected of targeting Iranian nuclear sites and assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists over the past decade.
