A Scottish green energy company, Oasis Marine, has developed innovative offshore technology to enable easier hydrogen refueling and electric charging for marine vessels.
Oasis Marine offers two main products – the Oasis Hydrogen Buoy and Oasis Power Buoy. These provide offshore bunkering for hydrogen refueling and electrical charging respectively.
This technology is seen as a breakthrough for the shipping and hydrogen industries, making it much easier for ships to transition from emissions-producing diesel to green hydrogen power.
The Scottish government has supported Oasis Marine by funding testing and analysis of the mooring and transfer systems for the buoys. Tank testing showed the buoys can successfully connect to ocean-going vessels.
The technology allows hydrogen to be produced using offshore renewable energy from wind and solar, and seawater, making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution.
Oasis Marine’s buoy technology is part of the broader clean energy revolution, with similar hydrogen production projects emerging in other parts of the world as well.
The article highlights how this Scottish innovation could significantly boost the marine industry’s shift towards decarbonization and more renewable energy sources.
