NASA is looking for volunteers to participate in its second year-long simulated Mars mission called Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA 2).
The mission will start in spring 2025 and involve 4 crew members living in a 3D-printed 1,700 sq ft habitat at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for a year.
The habitat called Mars Dune Alpha will simulate life on Mars with limited resources. Crew will perform tasks like habitat maintenance and growing crops.
To apply, candidates must be US citizens ages 30-55, have a STEM master’s degree and at least 2 years professional experience.
It’s a paid role but compensation amount is not disclosed. Crew will work simulated spacewalks in a 1,200 sq ft sandbox attached to the habitat.
The first CHAPEA mission is currently over halfway through its 378-day assignment to test systems for a potential future Mars crewed mission.
Applications are being accepted online until April 2nd for the opportunity to help NASA prepare for future human exploration of Mars.
