A live-action Naruto movie adaptation is in development. This has been in the works since 2015 but is now moving forward.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi, will write and direct the Naruto movie. He will also produce alongside Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu.
Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto expressed his approval of Cretton as the director and feels he is able to both embrace fan input but also create dramatic character-focused stories.
In 2015, Michael Gracey was initially reported to direct but it’s unclear if he’s still attached.
Development is still early with no information on plot, release date or casting provided.
Cretton taking on writing and directing duties offers promise to fans given his superhero film experience and endorsement from Kishimoto.
The live-action adaptation has been long-discussed but is now moving forward with an experienced creative team at the helm to bring the popular manga/anime property to film.
