– Intel announced details of its next-generation Lunar Lake processors which are set to launch in laptops in Q3 2024. Arrow Lake desktop CPUs will follow in Q4 2024.
– Lunar Lake will feature new Lion Cove performance cores and Skymont efficiency cores. One configuration tested had 4P+4E cores. It also includes an improved neural processing unit (NPU) and new Xe2-based integrated GPU.
– Intel claims Lunar Lake delivers 1.4x faster AI performance than Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon X Elite processors based on a GIMP benchmark. The new iGPU offers 1.5x more graphics power than Intel’s current Meteor Lake chips.
– For battery life, Intel says Lunar Lake provides up to 30% lower active power use than AMD’s Ryzen 7 7840U and 30% better efficiency than Qualcomm Snapdragon 8CX Gen 3 in a Microsoft Teams video call test.
– Intel is promoting the software and driver support for its NPU, with 500+ AI models supported on Launch and promises day-0 support for new models from Microsoft and others.
– Production wafers of Lunar Lake are already being made ahead of its planned Q3 launch and Intel expects to ship 40 million AI-enabled CPUs by the end of 2024.
