The Pillars of Creation are clouds of gas and dust where new stars are forming, located in the Eagle Nebula 5,700 light years from Earth. Hubble first imaged them in 1995.
NASA has combined data from Hubble and JWST to create a new 3D visualization showing the pillars in both visible and infrared light. This allows viewers to see differences between the views from each telescope.
The visualization gives a sense of the pillars’ three-dimensional structure and shows stars at various stages of formation inside the clouds. It highlights features like embryonic protostars and ejected material from newborn stars.
Combining data from multiple telescopes provides a more comprehensive understanding of astronomical objects like the Pillars of Creation. The new visualization allows everyone a novel way to experience this regions where stars are being born.
