Iran summoned the French ambassador to discuss the representation of Jesus Christ during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
During the ceremony, there was a depiction of Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” that Iran said insulted Jesus Christ.
Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance stated the depiction was “completely offensive and crossed all red lines” as Muslims revere Jesus as a prophet.
The minister stressed that the depiction insulted over 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide.
No details were provided on the specific aspect of the depiction that Iran found insulting.
But Iran criticized the representation during the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris as inappropriate.
