Titanic expedition yields lost bronze statue, high-resolution photos and other discoveries

– An expedition to the Titanic wreck site in 2024 discovered a lost bronze statue called “Diana of Versailles” that had not been seen since 1986. High resolution photos of the statue were captured.

– The expedition team from RMS Titanic Inc. spent 20 days surveying the site using new technologies to create detailed maps and over 2 million photos, the highest resolution ever.

– However, they also observed signs of decay and deterioration, including a large section of railing around the bow that had fallen since being seen in 2022. This highlights the need to continue preservation efforts.

– The expedition aimed to document the site after the death of the director of underwater research for RMS Titanic in a recent underwater vehicle accident. The findings show both preservation of artifacts but also environmental degradation over time.

– The data and photos collected will be analyzed and shared scientific community to identify historically significant artifacts for potential future recovery and preservation from the wreck site.
