Iran ‘refused’ Hezbollah request to attack Israel

Hezbollah requested Iran launch an attack on Israel for revenge after the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran two months ago.
However, Iran refused the request because the “timing isn’t right”. This is because Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is currently in New York for the UN General Assembly meeting.
Tensions have escalated between Hezbollah and Israel with cross-border rocket attacks over the past three days. However, Israel has been told by IDF to avoid attacks that could provoke Iran to join the conflict.
While Iran has vowed revenge for Haniyeh’s killing, a large-scale response has not occurred yet. Pezeshkian said Iran does not want to fall into a “trap” of wider regional war as accused by Israel.
Over 600 people have been killed in Israel’s “Operation Northern Arrows” attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon over the past week, according to Lebanese health authorities.
Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s support for Hezbollah but said it cannot stand alone against Israeli attacks backed by Western support for Israel.
