US sets $20 million reward for info on Iranian behind plot to assassinate John Bolton

– The US government has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information on an Iranian intelligence official involved in an alleged plot to assassinate former Trump administration national security advisor John Bolton.

– The official is identified as Shahram Poursafi, who American authorities say was acting on behalf of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security to arrange the murder of Bolton in retaliation for a US airstrike that killed an Iranian general in 2020.

– According to the State Department, Poursafi tried to approach individuals associated with an organized criminal group located in Europe and the Middle East to carry out the assassination in Washington or elsewhere.

– No actual assassination attempt took place. Bolton has been an outspoken critic of Iran and the nuclear deal since leaving government. The reward marks the latest step by Washington to curb Iran’s intelligence operations abroad.

– Iran has denied the assassination plot allegations. The bounty announced seeks information on Poursafi’s current location, travel patterns, association with government operatives or contacts in the criminal underworld that could help locate him.
